June, 2006 - David M. Renouf has been involved with the Windsor Locks Lions Club as long as he can remember. "Since I was born, in a way," Renouf said of his membership in the club.

For that service, as well as his work for the Windsor Locks Lions Ambulance and the Windsor Locks Chamber of Commerce, Renoug received the Chamber's [8th] Robert A. Taravella Award for Outstanding Community Service.

"This guy has done everything, not only for the Lions Club, but the ambulance corps", said Chamber President, Mike Russo. "He just gives a tremendous amount of his time."

A Windsor Locks native, Renouf's service with the Lions Club began with his grandfather, Fred Cousineau, who was an active member from 1946 until his death in 1975.

"I started with my grandfather. I was just used to it," he said.

He formally joined the club in 1980, when asked by his uncle, Robert Merthot, who was then President.

The next year he became the club's treasurer. He has been on its board of directors for 24 years and served three terms as treasurer. For the past 19 years he has been the club's finance chairman.

Renouf said he has handled financial matters for the ambulance corps as well. These matters include budgets, financial reports, rate applications, capital budgeting and town grant request presentations. He is also finance audit chariman for the Lions District.

He was named the Lion of The Year in 1991 and is a recipient of a Melvin Jones Fellowship award from the Lopns Club's International Foundation, a Connecticut Kinght of the Blind Award from the Lions Low Vision Center Inc.

Renouf has also worked with the Boy Scouts when they were developing a land trust as a nonprofit organization. He is also involved with Enfield Soccer.

One of the joys of serving these organizations, Renouf said, is "you get to voice opinions on things that aren't even financial in nature."

He said he is able to bring to the table knowledge from the various businesses he has as clients in his professional work as a partner in the certified public accounting firm of Bardaglio, Hart and Shuman in Windsor Locks

"Some of the experience you've developed over the years you can put to good use." he said.

Renouf said he is honored to have won the Taravella Award. "It's nice to be thought of in the same sentence with these people."

He is a 1978 graduate of Bentley College with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Pubilc Accountants, the Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants, AICPA Personal Financial Planning Division and the AICPA Information Technology Division.

Renouf and his wife, Donna, moved to Enfield in 1992. The couple has three children, Michelle, 17, Renee, 15, and Paul, 13.
